Hungry Heart is an intimate, hand curated salon founded by Kate Montgomery. 

Complied of a team of independent stylists, Hungry Heart is a fun and relaxed space that also provides the highest quality of care and consideration to every client. We strive to pay dedicated attention to each persons hair needs and desires during every service. Listening to your ideas, concerns, and hair goals at your appointment is our top priority. We will always be realistic to help you look and feel your best while we retain the integrity and structure of your unique hair. 

In order to keep our focus on our clients, we are an appointment only salon. Be patient with us when booking, we promise it will be worth it!

KATE MONTGOMERY

I have been in love with cutting and styling hair since high school, when I was continuously frustrated with bad haircuts while pleading to look cool. I began my career in Seattle, in 2007, after finishing a degree in Art/Anthropology at VCU. Rooted in a war with my own curly hair, I sought out to change hearts and minds about historically misunderstood beauty. Curl, wave, kink and natural texture are my specialty but I love to create on all heads. For me, hairdressing is more than hair, it's about people and relationships. It's about finding that gem within each person and polishing it to radiate from the inside out. I will listen and I'm not afraid to try a new fringe or a shorter length. Within the color world, I start with the basics of grey coverage, and blending, but I'm always going to try to convince you to grow out your natural silver, if it's time. I love doing everything from a highlight to a pop of pink. I will attempt to create something perfect for you in any given phase of your life. I love Richmond and I'm firmly planted here. I appreciate the art, music, food, drink and culture that is this delightful southern city. If you need a good electrician, florist or recommendation for a great restaurant, just ask. I want to connect the dots between great people and great experiences. This is more than a haircut!

SERVICES AND PRICING:

All services will be charged a flat-hourly rate of $105 per hour with a $55 minimum fee per appointment. This hourly rate includes tip, so there’s no math, no guessing, and everyone is clear about cost up-front. (Bang trim prices are based on consultation).

ERIN PFEFFERKORN

Hair began luring me in from the time I was young, when I would impulsively cut and color my own hair in my bathroom. Soon enough I had locked in my first job at a local salon down the street from my house. My hair education formally began there, in Virginia Beach, where I apprenticed for several years before making my way to Richmond. It was here that I finished my apprenticeship and found my footing in this thriving community. Now, ten years later, I’m happy to be strongly rooted in this ever-growing city I call home.

I’ve focused my career around helping clients find whatever they may be looking for, whether it be a comfortable routine or an impulsive pop in their aesthetic. More importantly, I strive to help people understand their hair. Not everyone knows which product to pick up or how to style their hair with it’s natural texture. With each appointment comes education, and hopefully the knowledge you might be looking for to finally feel great about how you wear your hair each day. Some days may be better than others, but having the knowledge is half the battle.

I feel very strongly that hair is not specific to gender, face shape, age or profession. I want to help everyone find what makes them feel best about themselves. So whether you are looking for a drastic change in shape or color, or you want to slightly adjust your current comfort zone, I’m here to help. While I love to work with a full array of tools and styles, I specialize in straight razor cutting and especially enjoy creating soft, bohemian shapes.

My chair is open to everyone. I’m here to provide an enjoyable and educational experience paired with the hair of your dreams!
